LAKEVIEW BAPTIST HISTORY
The above building was erected in 1977. It was the result of two years of hard work and the vision of the First Baptist Church (FBC) of Stover, Missouri. FBC Stover had been busing people in to Stover for services but decided a local church in our little lake community would accomplish more. It became a project of the Lamine Association of Baptist Churches and churches outside the association, such as High Point Baptist Church, also became involved.
A committee was selected from the Stover Church of the following members: Tommy Capps, Larry Edzards and Melvin Marriott.
C. O. Quigley, Chairman of the Trustees and President of the Corporation of the First Baptist Church of Stover, recorded the deed of property purchased in Ivy Bend on Lake Road 135-12 (now the Ivy Bend Road) to be used for the Ivy Bend Mission. Jim Allen, pastor of FBC at the time, and his wife, Dorothy, were great believers and supporters of the mission project.
Volunteers from the Ivy Bend area began to clear the land. In June of 1976, a ground breaking and basket dinner was held at the site. Rev. Webster Brown from the Missouri Baptist Convention Missions Department, presented the message. He stated that this might be the first mission started as a result of a bus ministry.
Volunteers with a carpenter background, built the building. Kenneth Wilson engineered the inside work. First services were held on September of 1977.
Since then the name has gone from Ivy Bend Baptist Mission to Ivy Bend Baptist Church to the current name of Lakeview Baptist Church. We intend to be a spiritual home for locals as well as folks who visit our part of the lake.
